Emissions intensity of generation
AGL's operated generation intensity decreased slightly in FY26, driven by lower coal and gas-fired generation volumes and reduced emissions intensity of coal-fired generation. The decrease was partly offset by lower operated renewable generation volumes, driven by lower hydro generation resulting from a combination of planned outages and reduced downstream water releases during FY26.
AGL’s operated and contracted generation intensity decreased in FY26, driven by lower coal- and gas-fired generation volumes and an increase in total operated and contracted renewable generation volume, driven by increased wind generation. This was largely driven by higher availability from wind assets in Victoria, alongside the first full year of generation from the Rye Park Wind Farm PPA following its commencement in April 2025.
The decrease in emissions intensity of electricity supplied in FY26 was driven by lower coal- and gas-fired generation volumes, declining grid intensity, and reduced market purchases.
Operated generation intensity comprises total Scope 1 and 2 emissions divided by total sent out generation for grid-connected electricity generation facilities which fit within AGL’s operated boundary. Operational control is as defined by the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007. |
Operated and contracted intensity comprises total Scope 1 and 2 emissions divided by total sent out generation for electricity generation facilities which fit within AGL’s operated and contracted boundary. AGL’s operated and contracted boundary includes any grid-connected electricity assets (generation or storage asset excluding behind the meter assets): a) which AGL has operational or financial control of, as defined by the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007; or b) in respect of which AGL has virtual or physical offtake or nomination rights, in proportion to AGL's share of such rights. Emissions and generation data for third-party operated generation assets AGL contracts from is prorated for AGL's proportion of offtake capacity. |
Greenhouse gas emissions have been calculated in accordance with the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme. |

National Electricity Market average intensity is the weighted average emissions intensity based on data from the Carbon Dioxide Equivalent Intensity Index (CDEII) as published by AEMO. |
FY26 emissions data is estimated based on measured emissions from material sources, which make up over 95% of total Scope 1 and 2 emissions, with estimates for minor sources. Data will be finalised and updated in November 2026. |
