Air emissions - particulates (PM10)

AGL Loy Yang emissions increased 10%. Emissions are split roughly 50/50 between point source and fugitive sources. There was a 52% increase in point source emissions despite the decrease in coal combustion and total electricity generation. This is likely attributable to ash content of the coal. Fugitive emissions include dust emissions and exhaust emissions from vehicles and equipment, and there was a 13% decrease due to changes in open areas.

Bayswater Power Station emissions decreased 23%. Emissions are split roughly 40/60 between point source and fugitive sources. Point source emissions, which are calculated using PM10 measured via stack tests and gas flow, decreased 27% due to lower measurements of PM10 at the stacks. Fugitive emissions, which include dust emissions and exhaust emissions from vehicles and equipment, decreased slightly by 5%.

AGL Torrens emissions decreased 45%. The decrease in emissions aligns with the overall decrease in pipeline natural gas combustion at Torrens Island Power Station and Barker Inlet Power Station.

Notes

FY26 data includes emissions associated with the combustion of black coal and diesel at the Bayswater Power Station, black and brown coal as well as natural gas at AGL Loy Yang, and natural gas and fuel oil at AGL Torrens. It also includes estimates of fugitive emissions at these sites. The remaining data will be made available in November 2026.

For the purposes of this data set, AGL Torrens comprises the Torrens Island Power Station and the Barker Inlet Power Station.

All figures have been rounded to the nearest kilogram.

The emission factors used in AGL's NPI reports are sourced from relevant industry emission estimation technique manuals available on the NPI website.

AGL Torrens emissions are calculated from the application of emission factors to the quantity of fuel combusted at Torrens Island Power Station and Barker Inlet Power Station. In FY26, these emission factors for Barker Inlet Power Station were updated due to an internal audit finding that identified more accurate emission factors and pollutant reduction factors in the guidance manual.

AGL Loy Yang natural gas use for June 2026 was estimated. This will be updated in November 2026.
